The Council of Faculty President has issued a memorandum through the clerk to formally notify the Student Representative Council (SRC) of the proposal to increase the Faculty’s basic dues from the Current amount of Three Thousand Naira (₦3000) to Five Thousand Naira (₦5000) across all the Faculties.

The memorandum which was signed by the Chairman, Samuel Abiola and the secretary, Israel Oyebanji expresses concern that the cost of running some faculty’s activities has increased. It states, “Specifically, the ₦3000 is no longer enough to organise constitutional and customary events such as freshers’ week, dinner, election amongst others. Even though the proposal is coming amidst the ongoing struggle against fee hikes, the council believes that the benefits of the increment outweigh the costs.

The release is coming after the Council of Hall Chairpersons also proposed an increment in Basic Hall Dues. Although, the Student Representative Council (SRC) is yet to respond. The body is expected to meet with the two councils involved to discuss the proposals. If both proposals are approved, it means that the sum total of the Faculty and Hall Dues will jump from six thousand naira(₦6000) to Ten thousand Naira (₦10,000).
