Tell us about yourself

I am Eunice Samuel, a 400 level student of this department. I am a freelance content writer and the social media manager of Enactus UI, an NGO on campus.

I am very passionate about the Sustainable Development Goals, I love volunteering and trying new things. And because of my love for learning new things, I learnt how to sew, make hair, crotchet and bake.

Why are you studying English?

I chose English because my favourite teacher in secondary school was my literature teacher and I enjoyed our literature classes so much. Plus I love to read novels a lot and write too. So I thought, why not make a career of what I loved doing the most, that’s why I’m here.

How do you feel being a finalist?

It feels surreal. Like I badly wanted this to happen, and now it’s happening, I can’t believe it. The thought of graduating and facing life without the soft cushion the four walls of this university gives scares me sometimes. 

I’m however optimistic that I’ll do life well and I’m eagerly counting down to the day I’ll write my last paper as an undergraduate.

What do you want to become in the future?

I want to be a lot of things but most importantly, a social innovator. I love school a lot so I’m hoping to get two masters degrees and a PhD. I don’t think I have a heart for business, so I may just stick to getting a white collar job in a fancy company or something (chuckles).

What are some of the life or business skills that you’ve learnt?

Thanks to the incessant strikes we’ve embarked on throughout my years of study in UI, I’ve gotten quite a number of certifications from a variety of educational platforms online. 

Sometime in 2020, I took a soft skills training organised by Jobberman and another by Coca-Cola. I also learnt digital marketing and SEO writing from Google and Microsoft. 

For business skills, I’ve gotten practical experience from being a member of Enactus UI as we are expected to carry out projects that not only impact the lives of people in a community, but are also business oriented. Whatever project idea we come up with must be self sustainable for as long as the project exists. Enactus UI not only trains students to be change makers, but also suave businessmen and women.

What is your relationship status?

I am currently single and in need of genuine love and pampering. 

What are your hobbies?

I love reading novels, watching rom-coms and listening to music. I love taking walks at night and meeting new people. 

Any likes or dislikes?

I dislike being in the same space with people that are insensitive to other people’s feelings, and I like dressing up and being carefree. 

What advice would you give to freshers and stalites?

To freshers, if you want to graduate with a first class, take your 100 level courses seriously. They are the easiest A’s you’ll ever get in this department. To stalites, it is not too late to get those grades up and maintain it. You can do anything you put your mind to.
