The National Association of Students of English and Literary Studies, University of Ibadan (NASELS UI), held her last Congress for the semester on June 12th, 2025.
The Congress which took place at Room 71 commenced despite the incomplete quorum as stated by the constitution.
Honorable Lawal from the 400 level constituency had earlier moved the motion for the commencement while Honourable Faruq from the 200l constituency moved the motion for the adoption of the reading of the last Congress’s agenda.
The Congress presided by the President, Afolabi Gloria, gave a fair hearing to Honourable Taiwo Faruq and Honourable Blessings representing the 200l and 300l constituencies, regarding their inactiveness at the Faculty level with which they gave their reasons and apologised.
Furthermore, Gloria raised the issue regarding WESTCOSELS, a conference for NASELSites in the Western region of Nigeria to connect and network. The event is set to be held at the University of Lagos from the 22nd to 26th of June, 2025. She implored NASELSites who are willing to attend the conference to meet up with the Vice President, Shokunbi Evangeline.
Speaking on the conference’s fee, Gloria announced a reduction from #25,000 to #17,000. With this, Aremu Pelumi motioned that, “each level of the department raises funds for their delegates” seeing that the fee might hinder students from signing up for the event.
Moreover, a proposition was laid regarding the NASELS’ picnic and excursion. The executive council proposed two different locations which are Tunde Odunlade Gallery at Bodija and Bower’s Tower at Mapo, with the proposed date being mid break between first and second semesters.
The council promised to create a poll on the association’s family page for people who were not able to attend the Congress to vote for their preferred location and the fee to be disclosed on Monday.
