In the late hours of Wednesday, May 28th, 2025, Ngũgĩ wa Thiong’o, a literary giant and prolific author, passed on and was confirmed dead by his daughter, Wanjikũ wa Ngũgĩ, at the age of 87, in Atlanta, USA.
Ngũgĩ wa Thiong’o (1938-2025), the Kenyan playwright and author, found a niche in literature and grew up to become one of the most celebrated writers in Africa.
His works, which are freight with the stories of Kenyan history and their survival struggles, capture a strong storytelling technique and poignant thematic thrusts that have fascinated readers all around the globe.
He wrote works like The Trials of Dedan Kimathi; Petals of Blood; Weep Not, Child; A Grain of Wheat; Devil on the Cross; Wizard of the Crow and other profound literary works.
Indeed, his remarkable impacts on African literature will forever remain indelible as he left solid footprints on the sands of time with his ingenious writing skills.
