The Congress, which was suspended by the Student Union executives, is now set to hold as the UI’SRC reaffirmed its decision at an emergency meeting convened to address the matter.

During the meeting, Covenant Odedele, the UI’SU President, was invited to explain why the planned Congress was suspended. In response, Covenant asserted that it posed a threat to students’ safety following the alleged assault on union executives the previous day.

After much deliberation, the Council agreed that the Congress should proceed as planned. Additionally, five Honourables were appointed to oversee security alongside defence ministers from the halls of residence, the school security unit, the parliamentary group, and the Man O’ War.

It should be recalled that the Covenant-led administration suspended the planned Congress over the alleged assault on union executives on May 15, 2025.
