The National Association of Students of English and Literary Studies, University of Ibadan (NASELS UI) held her first Congress and also conducted a Bye-Election for vacant offices on April 29th, 2025.

The Congress, presided by the President, Gloria Afolabi, had a good representation of members across levels who actively participated in the agenda.

Addressing the Bye-Election, the President informed the Congress about the scrutiny result of the candidates’ manifestos by the Press. The result indicated the defaults of two candidates running for the office of the Treasurer and Sport Director who failed to meet the requirement of the association’s constitution of Article 10, section VI and IX that states that the Treasurer and Sport Director aspirants should have spent at least three semesters in the department before contesting.

A motion was raised for the candidates to proceed despite the default to ensure inclusivity. In response, Honourable Lawal from the 400 Constituency, gave reasons to continue with the election and proposed that every candidates contesting in the Bye-Election must be mandated to buy an electoral form of 2000 naira with a deadline for Friday, May 2nd, 2025 irrespective of the outcome if the candidates were elected or not.

Without any opposing motion, the Congress engaged the candidates and voted through the count of hands. Four out of the six candidates emerged as the winners. With this, Nwoko Agnes, Ukorah Favour, Enilolobo Elizabeth and Olatubosun Oluwaseun were elected into the office of the Treasurer, Sport Director, General Secretary and Social and Welfare Director respectively.
