Okunola Abigail, a 300 level student of the Department of English, has emerged as AFAS Financial Secretary in the bye-election that was conducted on April 16th, 2025.

Mohammed Okunola from the Department of Linguistics and Okunola Abigail from the Department of English have been elected to the office of the Treasurer and the Financial Secretary with the vote of 11 and 9 respectively.

Three candidates had earlier vied for the vacant posts of Treasurer, Financial Secretary and Social & Welfare Director. While the former two offices are now occupied, the candidate for the latter position was disqualified having failed to pass the screening exercise.

Speaking with Nasels Press, Abigail responded she had no opponent during the bye-election process. She said “nobody stepped out to contest for the post last session when the general election was conducted. So a bye-election was conducted to fill the vacant posts and I decided to go for it. It’s something I’ve always wanted to do though, but I guess the courage just wasn’t there yet. I contested and I didn’t have an opponent. It was just me and by the grace of God, I won.”

It should be recalled that two NASELSites, Vincent Favour and Adeyefa Ebenezer were elected AFAS Vice-President and General Secretary respectively in the general election conducted on February 7th, 2025.
