In the late hours of Sunday, March 16, 2025, the leadership of the University of Ibadan Students’ Union has issued a statement which was addressed to the Federal Ministry of Education.

Representing the students of the University of Ibadan, the UI’SU leadership sought the immediate intervention of the Honourable Minister of Education on the ongoing strike action which was embarked upon by the clinical lecturers of the university.

The statement claimed that the strike kicked off on December 13, 2024 and the aftermath of it was that medical and dental students were out of school for three months.

Lamenting on how strike actions have plagued university education in Nigeria, the statement reads, “This strike action has further extended the years of schooling of medical students which was previously prolonged by ASUU strikes and the COVID-19 pandemic break.”

Addressing this issue, the statement serves as a call on the Federal Ministry of Education and other relevant stakeholders to ensure that there is a resolution of the strike  while the concerned students are granted access back to school.
