English wins first official match since October 5, 2021.

Adekunle Salau, the captain of the English Male Team, scored twice in English opener against Religious Studies (RES) to give the team a win in the AFAS Dean’s Cup

Adekunle’s brace against RES in the SUB Pitch on Tuesday gave English the first official win after its 2-0 victory against Classics on October 5, 2021.

The English talisman converted a penalty in the 9th minute after a handball by a RES player at the penalty area. However, Folarin’s long-range freekick leveled the score to 1-1 in the 48th minute before Adekunle gave English the winner with his finish in the 55 minutes after two RES players were red-carded for their misconducts on the pitch.

After the match, the English team captain told NASELS Press that the ‘determination and never-give-up attitude’ of the team gave it the win.

“We went with the intention of breaking the jinx of not recording a win in over four years. We wouldn’t have won without the team’s determination and never-give-up attitude. We hope this win will boost our morale and with the support from our fans, we hope to advance into the next stage. From there, it will be a new tournament,” he said.

Nonetheless, he appreciated the fans and the medical team for the support given to the team in the first match.

“On behalf of the team, we appreciate our fans for their support and the medical team for their efforts today. We hope to continue with this momentum.” he commended the fans and the medical team.

English will have to face History in its next match as it continues in its campaign in AFAS Dean’s Cup.
