The University of Ibadan Students’ Union President, Bolaji Aweda, has disclaimed in a memo released on January 23rd, 2025 that he did not receive any rice palliative as claimed in a document and would not accept such distribution for any reason.

The union with a memo only signed by the President announced her awareness of a document issued by the office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President of Nigeria on Students Engagement alleging students leaders across the country to have received a distribution of rice palliative.

To this, the President emphatically denounced having received any, rather, he professed his allegiance to advocate for improved educational standards and the welfare of the students.

The memo duly signed by Aweda, therefore, utilised the opportunity to remind the Federal Government of Nigeria to adequately respond to the persistent power outage in the University College Hospital (UCH) in the past 83 days admitting it “such intervention have always ranked far higher than the need to eat rice and should be addressed as urgently as possible”.
