The Union of Campus Journalists, University of Ibadan (UCJUI) in Conjunction with Africa Foundation for Young Media Professionals(AFYMP) has held a one-day journalism training for campus Journalists at the Faculty of Education.

The training, moderated by Mr Yinka Olaito was tagged, “Mastering Specialized Beats in Journalism” in which the following speakers were present: Adedamola Oloyede (Broadcast journalist, WellsRadio), Faith Omoniyi (Reporter Techcabal), Paul Omoregbe (Feature Editor, Nigerian Tribune), Ademola Bankole (Broadcast journalist, Fresh FM)

The Union of Campus Journalists President, Tosanwumni Tarre, in her opening remark, welcomed everyone and encouraged everyone to take notes as ‘learning never ends’. 

Adedamola Oloyede, in his presentation, encouraged broadcasters to “create a consistent content” in their various beats. Faith Omoniyi hammered on the need for campus journalists to always back up their writings with proof(s) to “avoid landing in hot water.” 

Paul Omoregbe, who gave a presentation on Finance Journalism, mentioned one important principle for journalism. 

He said, “Your stories are as good as your source.” 

He implored CJs to make their source(s) of a story an official one. Adeola Bankole, an Agriculture and Business journalist advised CJs to build themselves in any niche they are in because no knowledge is wasted.

The training, in addition, featured a panel session with hearts being rubbed together and questions being asked and answered.
