The Lawliwood Society, University of Ibadan is set to present its sixth annual stage play titled TOLUWALOPE AYEYE’S ALUTA, based on the unfortunate events of July 10, 1999.

The play is set to reveal the unwavering story of courage, sacrifice and the unbreakable spirit displayed by students in expressing solidarity and activism in Obafemi Awolowo University.

Commenting on the play, the Director, Toluwaleke Owonifari said ‘Aluta’ is based on the tragic events of July 10, 1999 at Obafemi Awolowo University. Like I tell my people at rehearsals, “this is a play of the moment.”

“While ‘Aluta’ captures the OAU tragedy in 1999, its themes is all-rounded: student unionism, the weight of leadership, and the eternal question of how far one should go in pursuit of justice.” he added.

Toluwalope Ayeye wrote this play not only as historical documentation, but also as a mirror to contemporary struggles in Nigerian higher institutions and how youth movements shape societal change.

In view of the play, the audience are to anticipate the play as it will be staged live in the University of Ibadan in 2025.
