University of Ibadan Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Kayode Omobowale has told UI convoking graduates that “it is not easy to obtain a degree” from the university.
The Vice-Chancellor made this known, on Saturday 16th November, 2024, during the Day 4 of the ongoing convocation ceremonies of the University of Ibadan at the International Conference Centre.
In his address, he emphasised the significance of the day of their feats, asserting that they had ‘earned’ the ‘celebration of success’.
“It is important to remember that along this journey, some of your peers were unable to complete their studies, perhaps due to academic challenges, misconduct, health issues, or worse. Yet here you are, standing proud and accomplished. The University of Ibadan degree is not easily obtained; it demands hard work, commitment, and consistent diligence. You have earned this celebration of success,” he said.
The event celebrated the conferment of Postgraduate Diplomas and Higher Degrees, including Master’s and M.Phil., across multiple faculties and institutes and also recognized exceptional academic achievements of the graduands.
The event was graced by several dignitaries, including The Vice-Chancellor, the Registrar, the Bursar, the University Librarian, Provosts of the College of Medicine and Postgraduate College, Deans of Faculties, Directors of Institutes and Centers, Heads of departments, Members of Senate and Congregation, The Vice Rector of the Pan African University, Prof. Bolanle Akeredolu, Representatives of the University of Ibadan Alumni Association, Student Union Executives, Graduands and their parents.
Faculties and Institutes represented included Science, Social Sciences, Agriculture, Basic Medical Sciences, Public Health, Law, the Institute of African Studies, the Institute of Child Health, the School of Business, and Pharmacy with the degrees highlighted as follows:
Faculty of Agriculture: 4 M.Phil., 178 Masters.
Faculty of Social Sciences: 2 M.Phil., 202 Academic Masters, 44 Professional Masters.
Faculty of Science: 3 M.Phil., 424 Academic Masters, 20 Professional Master’s, 14 Postgraduate Diplomas.
Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences: 4 M.Phil., 95 Masters.
Faculty of Clinical Sciences: 48 Masters, 14 Postgraduate Diplomas.
Faculty of Pharmacy: 1 M.Phil., 33 Masters, 7 Postgraduate Diplomas.
Faculty of Law: 45 Masters.
Faculty of Public Health: 1 M.Phil., 214 Masters.
Institute of African Studies: 1 M.Phil., 33 Masters.
Institute of Child Health: 15 Professional Masters, 1 Academic Masters.
School of Business: 79 Professional Masters, 12 Academic Masters, 19 Postgraduate Diplomas.
Additionally, students of the Pan African University Life and Earth Sciences Institute (PAULESI) were admitted to Higher Degrees (Master’s) during the ceremony.
