On Friday September 20, 2024, at around 9:00am, students of the University of Ibadan have converged on the school gate to commence a peaceful protest against the increment in fees.
Recall, that the management of the University released an internal memorandum on Saturday 31, August 2024 mandating all student to vacate the school premises before 2pm, enforcing a three-weeks break, which is to end on Friday, September 20 2024, as response to strings of protest that have sprung up since July 17, 2024, and an outcome of the sitting of the Governing Council, which held at the Senate Chamber on August 29, 2024.
The management of the university, having sent another internal memorandum in the last week of the imposed three-week holiday, stating the resumption of school, and students admittance back to their halls of residence on the condition of presenting their school fees receipt before being allowed to gain access into various halls.
This has led to a call for another protest to hold on the day of resmption.
At the moment, several media houses have registered their presence to capture moments of the protest.
