On August 14, 2024, The Organizing Committee of the SEALS Cup ‘24 expressed its deepest sadness as regards two recent tragic occurrences that involved members of the community.
The committee, through a memo released, offered its condolences to the families, friends and colleagues of Miss Odesanmi Oluwanifemi, a footballer from the Department of History who passed away recently.
Part of the memo reads, “Our thoughts and prayers are with her family, friends, and colleagues during this difficult time”.
The organizing committee also expressed its sadness for those affected by the ghastly motor accident that happened at Agbowo.
In the light of these incidents, the Organizing Committee decided that all the remaining teams in the competition should observe a minute of silence before each game for the rest of the tournament to show respect for those who were lost.
Consequently, the Committee encouraged all participants and spectators to come together with a sense of unity, compassion, resilience and support as the tournament continues.
