On Friday afternoon, June 21, 2024, the premises of the university’s medical centre was cluttered with a number of students who wanted to finish up the mandatory Medical Registration for students.
On May 27, 2024, the Director of the University Medical Services, Dr. Aderonke Ajah, signed a circular, behooving both the fresh and returning students of the University of Ibadan to take cognizance of the mandatory registration, as failure to adhere strictly would preclude the possibility of course registration.
She also warned that students would not be allowed into the examination hall without their Jaja card. Sequel to this broadcast, all the concerned students have been sent scampering for the offset of such attached complications.
As a ripple effect, new intakes of the University of Ibadan have recounted their experiences so far on campus. In a bid to adhere to the aforementioned broadcast by the university’s medical services, freshmen are seen en masse at the venue on a daily basis.
Our correspondent who paid a visit to the venue recounts the experiences he had. According to him, he saw some students with the result of their X-ray as they left the venue meant for registration. On getting to the venue, he was met with hordes of people, mostly freshers.
From a fresher who prefers to stay unidentified, “My experiences on campus have been good so far. The only challenge I have is with my Jaja registration. I went for my X-ray last week, and I’ve been coming here since then. I’ve written my name thrice; still, I haven’t completed my registration.” he stated.
Another fresher who identified as Jomiloju, to our correspondence, “My experience on campus has been fantabulous and interesting. Meeting new people has been a good thing, and my love for UI developed more. However, I think I’ll soon give up on this Jaja registration, because I need to start studying my courses.”, he also stated.
Records of previous years reveal that students relinquish the completion of their medical registration due to the delay in getting attended to.
On the other hand, some stalites sheerly completed their registration via strenuous persistence. However, neglecting this mandatory registration would hinder these freshmen from completing their course registration and even sitting for examinations, as stated in the circular broadcast.
