In the just concluded Global Huawei ICT Competition, students from the University of Ibadan showed a remarkable display of talent and expertise. Through their resilience and dedication, they have helped the school achieve global recognition at the prestigious Huawei ICT Competition 2023-2024. The students had secured not one, but two grand prizes amidst stiff competition from around the world at the competition, which took place in Shenzhen, China, on May 26, 2024.

The team, comprising Rufus Olusoji Adisa, Tolani Adekunle Adisa, Chibueze Emmanuel Ibekwe, and Lawrence Chukwuemeka, showcased their exceptional skills in the Computing Track category, earning them the top positions. Their peers, Lukman Oyeniyi Abdulyekeen, Sodiq Babawale, and Temiloluwa Oloye, mirrored this success in the Cloud Track category, further cementing the position of University of Ibadan students as leaders in ICT education and innovation.

These victories are greatly significant considering the scale of the competition, which featured over 170,000 participants from over 2,000 universities across 80 countries. The students’ success is a clear indication of the high-quality education and commitment to excellence that the University of Ibadan instills in its students.

The Students’ Union, under the banner of Team Amelioration, has expressed immense pride and extended its congratulations to the victorious students. Their achievements not only brings honour to the university at large, but also serves as a beacon of inspiration to the Nigerian youth, showcasing the vast potential and capabilities in the field of ICT.

The annual Huawei ICT Competition draws global university and college students to participate in a fierce contest organised by Huawei. The competition serves as a dynamic platform for fostering healthy rivalry and exchanging insightful perspectives. Since its inception five years ago, the competition has proven to be instrumental in elevating the ICT proficiency and practical dexterity of students, while simultaneously stimulating their ingenuity through the utilisation of cutting-edge technologies and platforms. The grand objective of this initiative is to propel technological progress and foster digital inclusion on a global scale.
