The National Association of Students of English and Literary Studies, University of Ibadan, held its maiden press awards ceremony on Saturday, 27th April 2024.
The event, which took place at the Heritage Park, University of Ibadan, was organized to recognise and celebrate campus journalists for their hard work and unwavering dedication to excellent journalism and the press publication in the just concluded academic session.
In his remark, the Editor-in-Chief, Atanda Ayobami, said the ceremony provided another opportunity for the association to thank journalists for their exceptional work and contributions to the NASELS Press publications.
At the ceremony, three categories of awards were presented: the awards for Best Campus Journalist for each desk, the Best Campus Journalist award, and the Most Consistent Campus Journalist. All desk editors also received certificates of recognition for their outstanding contributions.
The desk category awards saw various campus journalists winning the prestigious prize of excellence, with cash prizes sponsored by the two former editors-in-chief in the 2020/2021 and 2021/2022 academic sessions.
The best campus journalists for the first categories are Akinsola Rebecca, Literature Desk; Olumurewa Damilola, Lifestyle Desk; Ogunleye Esther, News Desk; Olorunfemi Praise, Opinion Desk; Ibitunde Favour, Features Desk; Ademola Ryhanat, Politics desk; and Adeniji John Taiwo winning the prestigious Language Desk award.
Ogunleye Esther, a member of the NASELS Press News and Sports Desk editor, was named Best Campus Journalist of the Session award. She said the award, which comes with a certificate and a cash prize, means a lot to her and that she is extremely grateful to the editors who worked on her stories.
For the third and last category, Awoko Emmanuel, also presented with a cash prize and certificate, won the Most Consistent Campus Journalist award.
Closing the ceremony was a remark from the outgoing Editor-in-Chief. Food, and drinks were served, and the award event was called to a close.
