The Japanese Ambassadorial visited the University of Ibadan on the 5th of April,2024 on an assignment to announce the Read Japan Project Book donation ceremony, and also announce the planned Scholarship for Students and Staff.

This event which was held at the Trenchard Hall, in the University, started at 3:00 pm as the University of Ibadan welcomed His Excellency, MASTSUNAGA Kazuyoshi, the Ambassador Extraordinary Plenipotentiary of Japan to the Federal Republic of Nigeria, accompanied by his wife, and also SHIMADA Mami (ms.) Secretary, Culture and Information, Embassy of Japan, Federal Republic of Nigeria for the Japan Book Donation Ceremony.

Moving on, Dr. Adedoyin Aguoru, the President of the African Association of Japanese Studies, who also doubles as the Director of Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning, University of Ibadan earlier applied for the book grant, and as well had won the University the books as this further fosters the University relationship with the Japanese.

Hence, the Read Japan Book project donates 100 AAJS Journal (studies in transnational Africa and Japan) to Kenneth Dike Library to foster adequate learning for students and researchers in their quest for Japan’s culture and society. Also, SHIMADA Mami (ms.), Secretary of Culture and Information announced the scholarship opportunity for both staff and students as offered by the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology(MEXT), which was founded for international students to study in Japan. As the event drew the curtain of closure, the University Chancellor responded to the donation by expressing his gratitude to the ambassadors for their immense contribution to learning. He further appreciates Dr. Adedoyin Aguoru for her resilience and effort in encouraging education mostly for the University. The University Librarian added that it’s an additional opportunity for students, and researchers to aid their understanding at an arm stretch by enriching their knowledge.

The ceremony ended with the Anthems after when Mr. Ganiyu O. Saliu, the University Registrar had given the vote of thanks, and requested that there be a continual visit of the ambassadors to the University in order to foster learning and relationships between both parties.

In attendance are the University Chancellor, Prof. Adebowale, the Registrar, Mr. Ganiyu O. Saliu, the University Liberian, Dr. Mercy A. Irognanachi, Deans of faculties, students, and many other distinguished ladies and gentlemen.
