The National Association of Students of English and Literary Studies (NASELS), University of Ibadan, held its Cultural Night at the New Building Car Park, Faculty of Arts, University of Ibadan, on Friday, 15th March 2024.

The cultural-display event was an offshoot of the NASELS Week ’24 scheduled for the 14th-16th of March 2024. It was carefully designed to bring students of the Department of English from all levels together in oneness and embrace the different ethnicities that abound in the department.

In attendance were all NASELites who had the spirit of culturalism, and came out in various native attires to grace the event. They were able to create a lively atmosphere that spoke volumes filled with different mesmerizing colours.

Mats were spread out, traditional songs and games were played, and it was overall a night filled with fun and merriment.

In attendance also were guest speakers from a Real Estate Agency who came to speak insightfully to the students on how to make money online by engaging in real estate. In their words, “You are not only selling for the company, you’re selling yourself out as a brand”.

Overall, the cultural night was a celebration of diversity and unity in diversity.

In an interview with a 100-level student who graced the occasion in her native attire, she quipped, “It was fun and exciting. I got to have a lot of insight into the workings of the different cultures in Nigeria. We did come with an empty stomach and leave with a filled heart.”

In another interview, the beaming student exclaimed, “All thanks to Team Rejuvenation. The Cultural Night was a success and it was fun. We had little cultural chops to eat but it was covered up with the other activities we had for the rest of the night”.

However, as the tenure of the Akomolafe Similoluwa-led Team Rejuvenation gradually nears its end, it posits that the executive council of the NASELS UI has organised four events, namely Retro Day, A Movie Night, Hue Haven, and the Cultural Night to bring to life a sense of togetherness among the NASELSites.
