A world devoid of technology would be unimaginable for many of us. No phones, no computers, no internet, no social media. How would you feel if you had to live without technology for a day? For a week? For a month? For many of us, it is unthinkable. Technology has become an integral part of our daily lives, affecting various aspects of society, such as media, health, education, and business. The advent of technology started as a collaboration and innovation of educated minds, who see beyond the spectacular that stood on the bridge of their nose, to explore and transform the world. Today, technology has enabled us to communicate more effectively, detect discoveries, access education beyond the traditional classroom, and also to enhance our productivity and creativity. But, do all these beauties make technology flawless?

In addition, technology has penetrated every aspect of our daily life. Without these new inventions of technology, life would be a pitch-black room with no hope of escape. However, human curiosity and exploration led us to discover technology and use it. Thus, the world became illuminated with technology’s rays of light. Technology in the media sector has developed new or better ways of using social media platforms for communication. Technology has also benefited the business sectors by fostering global development making work less tasking. Thanks to the invention of the theory! Technology has made work more efficient and productive. The work week can be shortened to twenty-five hours, without affecting our jobs or income. Inflation is low, and the distribution of workers’ pay and revenue is fair. This has reduced the workload and increased the leisure time for people. All we need is to find the right balance between work and fun.

Although technology is a powerful force that shapes our lives in many ways, it can make our work more efficient, productive, and rewarding, but it can also create new challenges, risks, and dilemmas. One of the most important questions we face today is how technology affects our leisure time. Does technology enhance or diminish our leisure time? Does it give us more opportunities and possibilities, or does it limit and constrain us?

Leisure time provided by technology is a precious resource that we should not take for granted or misuse. Let us not forget about the convenience that technology brings to our leisure. From the time we began to use the washing machine instead of using our bare hands. It is the time saved when we work from home, working behind the keypad of our computer instead of rushing to work from online shopping to food delivery services. Technology has made our lives so much more convenient. We can order groceries, and clothes, and even have our favorite meals delivered to our doorstep with just a few taps on our phones. It saves us time and effort, allowing us to focus on the things that truly please us in our leisure time.

On the other hand, technology does not necessarily kill leisure, but it can sometimes have negative effects if not used in moderation. Technology steals the conveniences of our leisure; excessive screen time can lead to a sedentary lifestyle because spending more time sitting and engaging with technology rather than being active and enjoying outdoor activities can lead to depression.

Furthermore, technology can sometimes be a source of distraction with constant notifications on the latest celebrity’s gist that pops up while on our phone and the temptation to constantly check the latest update on Instagram. With these, we might find it difficult to fully immerse ourselves in leisure activities.

In conclusion, different attitudes towards leisure are what make a positive or negative impact on how people use technology. Some people see leisure as a luxury or a waste of time, and they may miss out on the benefits of technology for their well-being. Others see leisure as a necessity or a right, and they may enjoy the advantages of technology for their happiness. However, leisure activities can also be harmful, addictive, or unproductive, and they may interfere with our goals and values. Therefore, we need to have a healthy and balanced attitude towards leisure and use our leisure time wisely and responsibly.
