Nasels Press: Can we meet you?
Sinmiloluwa: I am Akomolafe Tolulope Sinmiloluwa, a 400 level student of the Department of English. I am currently the president of the the prestigious department of the University of Ibadan.
Nasels Press: How old are you in the office?
Sinmiloluwa: It is almost 2 months now
Nasels Press: What inspired you to pursue a leadership role in the department?
Sinmiloluwa: I wanted to implement a change in the department and I was really passionate about it.
Nasels Press: How dId you feel when you emerged victorious in the election?
Sinmiloluwa: I felt elated, but I was also conscious of the fact that a great task was now on me.
Nasels Press: What are the goals you have set for the department for your tenure?
Sinmiloluwa: To ensure oneness and social awakening amongst NASELSites, and this is where the name Rejuvenation’23 came in.
Nasels Press: What strategies are you using to ensure effective communication and alignment within the Department of English and the Faculty of Arts?
Sinmilouwa: I am connecting with departmental executives across the faculty, and I am working hand-in-hand with members of the NASELS Executives. I also ensure that I am working with the PRO to disseminate information to Naselsites.
Nasels Press: How are you balancing academics and your position as the departmental president?
Sinmiloluwa: By the Grace of God as well as delegation of duties.
Nasels Press: What have you personally gained being the departmental president?
Sinmiloluwa: I have been able to connect and network with many people. I have also discovered different places in UI by running errands for the good of NASELS UI.
Nasels Press: Can you discuss any recent accomplishment within the department so far that you are proud of?
Sinmiloluwa: We recently organized the Retro Day; it was a success. We got some remarkable feedbacks.
Nasels Press: What prompted the Retro Day Event?
Sinmiloluwa: The idea of the Retro day was actually the thought of Halloween. So, we decided to bring it home a bit by celebrating the Nigerian- Western fashion of the 1970s-1990s. My wonderful excos and I planned it and it was beautiful.
Nasels Press: What challenges have you encountered in your role as the departmental president, how have you addressed them?
Sinmiloluwa: I have noticed that sometimes Naselsites don’t give as much energy as I would like, but it is getting much better, and I’m glad for that.
Nasels Press: How will you measure your performance and success as the departmental president at the end of the tenure?
Sinmiloluwa: That will be up to Naselsites as I can’t do that myself. All I know is that I’m trying as much as I can alongside my fellow executives.
