The Okigbo Poetry Club, UI, Holds First General Meeting, Admits Over 50 New Members.
The Christopher Okigbo Poetry Club, University of Ibadan, held its first general meeting for the 23/24 academic session in Mike Okiro Room, CLA Building, Faculty of Arts, on the 22nd of September, 2023.
The eminent club, established in honour of the famous poet, Christopher Ifekandu Okigbo — who died as a soldier during the Nigerian Civil War — is the sole poetry club for the University of Ibadan. Although, it is parented by the National Association of Students of English and Literary Studies (NASELS), UI, its membership cuts across different departments.

In the meeting, ‘Bomi Adamson, the new president of the club, indicated that there will be an official handover of executive powers to new board members who have been working hand-in-hand with him since their appointments.
The president, ‘Bomi Adamson, a 300 level student of the Department of English, in his speech, affirmed that the poetry club is not only meant for poets, but also admirers of poetry.

A member of the executive council opined that all the members of the association need to work in synergy with one another while catering for the needs and upholding the goals of the prestigious club.
‘Bomi Adamson later encouraged the members to join the club’s WhatsApp TV named ‘The Okigbo Poetry Club TV’ — an initiative of his administration —and follow the club on all of their social media accounts.
In addition to the new developments, the club admitted over 50 new members from different departments and faculties in the University of Ibadan.
The meeting was enlivened by the poetic performances of the student poets and poetesses who were open to criticisms of their works.

In the final stages of the meeting, the president, ‘Bomi Adamson, directed all members to come together for a club photograph which symbolises the unity within The Okigbo Poetry Club.
