Tell us about yourself
Hello, my name is Awopetu Joseph, I am a final year student of English at the University of Ibadan.
When I’m not analyzing Shakespearean sonnets or Chomsky’s latest theories, you’ll pretty much find me a cool dude.
My hobbies are reading novels, binging really long TV shows and watching but never playing football.
Why are you studying English?
English opens up a world of opportunities. The fact that I could further my education in almost any Art related field captivated me.
Plus there was the advantage of reading and studying some, really amazing, works of literature.
How do you feel being a finalist?
I feel great, I’ve been an undergraduate for too long. With the strikes and COVID break, I’m just relieved to be in my final year. Although I also feel that sense of anticipation and nervousness, but that’s normal I guess.
What are some of the life or business skills that you’ve learnt?
I am a skilled freelance writer and designer, I create engaging content and visually appealing designs. Studying English, I have learnt to write better.
My writing skills span across various genres, from creative storytelling to technical content, you never really have a choice on the nature of the jobs you get in the online freelance world.
I take pride in my ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and manage projects. All these I learnt as a student of English.
What do you want to become in the future?
In the future, I aspire to be a renowned expert in my field, making meaningful contributions to the industry/society as a writer.
I envision myself continually pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in the realm of writing.
I also plan to expand my professional network, collaborate with like-minded professionals, and bag my spot in an independent/international and well respected media empire.
Ultimately, my goal is to continue honing my craft, building a successful writing career, and making a positive impact with my work.
What’s your relationship status?
Single. And searching of course…Every guy is searching, that’s a default status whether you’re single or taken (lol)
Any likes or dislike?
I’m really into rap music, sports and stand up comedy
I dislike opera music, cycling, tea(of any kind) and 7a.m classes
What advice would you give to freshers and stalites?
My advice to Freshers, is to clearly understand what they want from the department and remain focused on achieving it. Your time here could be as short as four years or as long as six years, believe me I know.
As for the stalites, you’ve seen at least two UI transcripts, you know how it is already, just stay motivated, you’ll be fine.
