Can we meet you?
My name is Adebayo Abolade, a 400lvl English student. I am the last born and the second daughter.
Why are you studying English?
I’ve been interested in studying English literature since I was in SS3. And I love reading novels, and I thought it would be fun to study a course in which I would analyse books. Well, until I found out I had to study language too.
Interesting. Does this mean you found language courses more difficult?
Some language courses have given me a hard time, while some are actually fun. I remember this course I did in 200lvl about the history of the English Language. It was an interesting course.
How does it feel being a finalist?
It feels like stress. Having to worry about my courses, my project, and life after school is not easy at all. But it does feel good to know that I’m about to finish a stage of my life and move on to the next. It’s somewhat scary too though
Do you have any life or business skills you’ve acquired?
Yes. I’ve learnt about time management skills. It has really helped me to create a balance between school and work.
I also learnt how to tolerate people since I’ve had to live and work with different kinds of people during my stay in school.
Lovely. Aside from your academic commitment in the University of Ibadan, what else do you do?
Well, I’m learning baking, and I also work sometimes.
What are some of the challenges you’ve faced as a student and how did you overcome them?
There’s been a few challenges o. I had a really serious one when I was in 200level. Then, I had a big misunderstanding with my dad and my brother, and I found it really difficult to concentrate on reading.
I overcame that challenge by praying, sth I rarely do. Then, I spoke with my friend, Oyindamola. She really encouraged me and prayed with me. That made me feel better.
On a scale of 1-10, what would you rate your academic strength?
Well, I’d give it an 8
What are the things you enjoy doing (hobbies), your likes, and dislikes?
I enjoy watching series, mostly thrillers though.
I like reading too and spending time with my friends. I dislike dishonesty.
What’s a funny experience you’ve had in UI?
In my first year, I had most of my clothes and a wig stolen in the school hostel. It was funny and painful at the same time.
What is your relationship status?
Lol. I’m very single o.
What would you like to become in future?
A writer and an academic.
What advice would you give to freshers and stalites alike?
For the freshers, I’d like to tell them to concentrate on their studies because having a good foundation matters a lot, especially regarding their results.
To Freshers and Stalites, I’d like to tell them both to engage themselves in other programs besides their academics.
Thank you so much for your time.
You’re welcome.
