
The 2019 edition of the largest public speaking event in Sub-Sahara Africa, known as Jaw War, began on Saturday, 9th November, 2019 at the New Lecture Theatre, Faculty of Science, University of Ibadan.
The contest which is popularly known to attract students en masse from the University had large turnout of students. The venue was filled to the brim before the programme commenced at 4:45pm as against 4pm that it was scheduled to start.
The first leg of the inter halls debate saw Bello triumphed over Awo Hall, with 68.42 points against 66.2, Queen Idia Hall beat Kuti Hall by 71.4 point to 69.3, Independence Hall thumped Alexander Brown Hall, 67.4 to 62.9 points, Zik Hall beat Queen’s Hall 66.6 to 63. 3 points, while Tedder Hall beat Mellanby Hall by 63.3 point to 62.1
The theme of this year’s edition is “Africa: Dark Continent; Stepping into the Light.”. Various topics were debated for and against such as issues concerning the VAT increase in Nigeria, the efficiency of Distant Learning in Nigeria, child birth policy in Nigeria and many other topics.
Members of the administrative staff also came to deliver warm regards from the Vice Chancellor.
